Shimabara Yusuikan (Spring Water House)

The Shimabara Yusuikan is one of the "Mizu Yashiki (Water Residence)", the traditional-style residence with a spring water garden, found in Shimabara City. This former residence of the Mimura Family was built in the early Showa era (1926-1989) and is now used as a tourist center. Its Japanese-style main building and the surrounding stone and brick walls are designated as the National Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Visitors can spend a relaxing moment looking at the garden with spring water pouring into it. Visitors can also participate in the cooking program (a paid program) to make a local sweet dumpling "Kanzarashi" by using spring water.
