As the trees turn pale green, the mountains are covered with pink-colored flowers of Miyama-kirishima (Kyushu azalea), and the Unzen region enters the colorful season.
Miyama-kirishima, also known as Unzen azalea, starts to bloom in late April around the Unzen Jigoku area, and is at their best around mid-May in the Nita Pass area.
