Unzen Historical Museum Kunimi Exhibition Hall
Unzen Historial Museum Kunimi Exhibition Hall is located in the Kojiro-kuji district (Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings) and makes use of the restored building of a junior high school (originally built in 1948) of the former Kojiro village. Once you enter the wooden building with tiled roof, you can feel as if slipping back in time to the nostalgic Showa Period.
It is estimated that people began to live in the Shimabara Peninsula around 30,000 years ago. This museum exhibits archaeological artifacts from the incipient Jomon period (10,000 BCE-300 BCE), the Yayoi period (300 BCE-300 CE), to the Edo period (1603-1867). You can learn about transformation in life styles of the people who resided in the northen part of Shimabara Peninsula.
