Shin’yake Lava Flow
The Shin'yake Lava is the lava flow descended about 2 kilometers along the northeastern slope of Mt. Fugendake prior to the collapse of Mt. Mayuyama that caused the "Shimabara Catastrophe" in 1792.
At present, it is covered by trees, and the Yakeyama spring water is flowing from its peak. There is a circuit trail around the peak of lava, and from there you can observe the mound of lava bank and the bluff of lava peak.
Near from here, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy eating the traditional cuisine "Nagashi Somen (flowing somen noodles) " during summer, which used to be prepared with spring water before the Heisei Eruption.
