Samurai Residence
The samurai residences were built as the housing for low-ranking samurai when the Shimabara Castle was constructed. This area is also called "Teppo-machi (gun town)", since these residences were the homes of infantry troops who mainly used guns during the battle period. A stone-built channel for spring water runs through the center of the street, and it has been carefully maintained as it supplies daily life water to local residents.
