Terraced paddies of the Tanimizu area were designated as one of the "100 best terraced paddies in Japan" in 1999. The distributin of many of the terraced paddies is connected to landslides, and many reservoirs are also located in the landslide areas.
In the Tanimizu area, potatoes are widely cultivated as a back crop to the paddy rice, and the visitors can enjoy different sceneries of the terraced paddies in each of the four seasons.
