The hot spring called "Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell)" is one of the main tourist attractions in the Shimabara Peninsula.
It is surrounded by the smell of sulfur, and there are around 30 geothermal areas, including "Oito Jigoku (Oito Hell)" and "Daikyokan Jigoku (Great Hawling Hell)". The scenery of this area looks just like a hell, as it is covered by steam and hot air bursting from deep beneath the ground with the pervasive odor of sulfur. This area is also known for a scene of Christian martyrdom, and a momument to martyrdom is erected here.
